On-Page SEO - Get Quality Traffic to your Website

On-Page SEO

On-Page SEO is an activity done for getting Quality traffic or users to your website through Search Engines. Google wants to win a user's heart by giving relevant results. But a website owner is in a rush to win Google’s heart. To achieve this, one should make a user spend more time in your website. I am going to explain you the important steps of On-Page Optimization below.

Unique Title Tag

A title tag defines the title of a web page. Title tag should be unique as this will appear as the headline in the Search Engine Result Page (SERP) where a user will click. It is best to keep the title tag under 60 characters of length. Title tag plays a main role for a Search Engine to understand about a web page. Title tag should be excellent as this will be shared in Social Media platforms. Each page of a website should have unique page title.

Meta Description

Meta description is mainly for the user to read as this will be shown in the SERP. It is optimal to keep the Meta description length below 160 characters. Meta descriptions should be unique for each page of a website.

Web Page Speed & Good Content

Web Page speed is a main factor under user’s interest. Study shows that a user will not wait if your web page loading time exceeds more than 2 seconds. This will affect your target audience and the conversion rate will come down. Here another factor to keep in mind is about the content in your web page. If your web page has good content, then user will stay longer in your page and your search ranking will get improved. And if opposite happens then this will lead to higher bounce rate for your page. Kindly avoid low quality and thin content for your web page.

Anchor Text & Mobile-Friendly Web Page

Anchor Text is something you see in blue underlined text which is clickable. The Anchor Text displayed will point to a new location on the web. The target link given in the anchor text should be valid and not broken ones. Anchor text plays a major role in the ranking factor depending on the target link value. Make sure that your web page is mobile-friendly and this is the latest update from Google. Google will penalize your web page if it is not mobile-friendly.

What is Search Engine Optimization - Google Tips and Updates

search engine optimization

What is Search Engine Optimization?

Here most of us are familiar with the word Search & Engine. You know Search means finding something or someone and Engine means a machine. But together Search Engine is a software or a tool that enables a user to search for information in the World Wide Web. The first website to register in the World Wide Web is http://info.cern.ch/ and this was launched on August 6, 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee. As you all know the most popular search engines in the today’s world are Google (80%), Yahoo & Bing. Before Google’s entry all other existed Search Engines were very poor in showing the relevant results to the user searched query. But Google changed the way we look into today’s Internet world.

The phrase Search Engine Optimization is first used by Bruce Clay in the year 1997. Bruce Clay is the Father of SEO according to Google search. During this period the optimized pages got highest rankings in the Search Engines but it was not a relevant result for the user query. Search Engine Optimization is the method of getting free or organic traffic of quantity and quality types to your web page. This practise was then followed by Google by creating lots of algorithm. Nowadays the search results are more relevant and below are some tips and updates of Google.

google search engine

The Google Search Engine was started as a research project for the College University by Larry Page & Sergey Brin which began exploring in March 1996. The vision of Google is to provide access to the world’s information in one click.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

The three key process of Google in SEO is Crawling, Indexing & Serving.  Crawling is done by Googlebot which is also known as Spider. A sitemap makes the Googlebot easily crawl the web pages of a site. A robots.txt is a file which blocks the Googlebot from Crawling the content on a site. Indexing acts like a database for Googlebot where a page is saved. Serving deals with the best result Google can deliver to a user when a search query is entered and is determined by many factors. A web page in Google is ranked by the PageRank algorithm based on Backlinks (BackRub). Nofollow is used to prevent Googlebot from following a specific link.

Important Google Updates

Google has done lots of updates year by year and here follows some major ones.  Nofollow came into existence on January 2005 to control the outbound link quality. In the same year 4 months later, Google introduced Personalized Search & XML Sitemaps. Meanwhile small updates occurred and in August 2008, Google came up with an update named Google Suggest which displays the suggested searches in a dropdown while user types in search box.

Years passed and on February 23, 2011 a major algorithm update named Panda came into existence to fight against content spamming. Later on Panda came up with many versions. On April 24, 2012 Google came up with an update named Penguin to protect keyword stuffing. Later the Hummingbird update was introduced on August 20, 2013 which had a power to semantic search results. On July 24, 2014 Google launched a new algorithm update named Pigeon which improved the local search results. Later Google came up with an algorithm stating a web page should be mobile friendly.
